my birthday boy is six and sick

Isaiah turned six years old on Wednesday and he was sick with a virus that he has been fighting since last Saturday--YUK!!! He has been very quiet and has been laying still on the couch for days now. Still -- this is a highly unusual state around our house. There has been an odd sense of peacefulness despite the medicine cups, thermometers and humidifiers. There has been less bickering between brothers and no swords to dodge this week. This was a welcome relief for the first few days but I have to say that I am missing my intensely active and passionate first born boy. I just took his temperature and it is 102.9. I must confess that I am somewhat of a hypochondriac and health issues, especially with my children, send my mind down terrible paths of fear and vain imaginations. I believe the Lord is in the process of delivering me from all of my fears. I trust that He holds my children in the palm of His hands. Tonight my faith has been tested in more than one way. I never anticipated the need to teach my 3 year old that you must cook meat before you taste it. My look of horror and words of panic caused him to burst into tears as he tried to spit the raw bacon out of his mouth. Prayers went up from my lips --Lord cleanse and purify and eliminate any salmonella etc.... :) I went out after dinner and returned to find out that John had given Thaddaeus a bottle that had breast milk from the fridge that was at least a month old!!! A feeling of panic washed over me and again prayers went up -- Lord, please cleanse and purify the milk and remove any traces of harmful bacteria. In order for Him to deliver me from ALL of my fears I will have to walk through situations that evoke fear. Tonight I rest in the knowledge that he watches over my children at all times and that He loves them more purely and perfectly than I do. His grace covers all of our parenting mishaps!!! This week has been a good reminder to be thankful for the intense energy of my boys because that energy indicates health and life!! Thank you Lord for LIFE in all the beautiful and messy ways that you bring it to us.

Big Week

This has been a big week for our family. We have a new member of our household. Our friend Melisa May has made the big move all the way from the Lone Star State and is now living with us. She is already a huge blessing to us. My kitchen has never been so clean for this many consecutive days!:) One morning Jadon said "where is the lady at the top of the house?" Then he asked "what is the lady at the top of the house's name?" So now we affectionately call her "the lady at the top of the house.

Thaddaeus also had a monumental event this week. He ate his first solid food on Wednesday. He sat in the high chair which seems very BIG with his baby body often leaning to one side. I gave him mashed banana and he was smiling by the end of the first feeding.
